uvex safety gloves has been located in the port industrial area of Lüneburg since 1990 and enjoyed steady organic growth. The company is now among the top players in the global safety gloves industry. Based on its own research, development and production, uvex manufactures safety gloves of the highest quality, primarily for the automotive, electronics and chemicals industries.
The site has been undergoing extensive construction work since mid-2013, in what is the fifth expansion since the plant was first established. This includes modernisation of existing buildings as well as expansion of the administrative and manufacturing units. Two new production halls with a total area of approximately 5,800 square metres and a new office building have now been built, providing new space for future growth. The overall investment in buildings and machinery totals more than EUR 15 million. It has also created 50 new jobs in the medium term.
Franz Keller, Managing Director of uvex safety gloves: “Following this investment and expansion project, the uvex safety gloves plant is now the largest manufacturing site for safety gloves in Europe. Lüneburg has therefore established itself as the European capital and home of hand protection.”
The official inauguration of the new manufacturing site took place on 18 July 2014. The new building was officially opened in the presence of Lüneburg’s mayor Ulrich Mädge, various guests of honour and both the partners and the management of uvex safety gloves. At the same time, an additional state-of-the-art production facility for safety gloves was put into operation.
The Managing Partner of the uvex group, Michael Winter, spoke of the importance of the Lüneburg site for the uvex group in his welcome address. The investment in manufacturing of uvex safety gloves also signified a commitment to Germany as a production location.
“Having products that are ‘made in Germany’ makes us competitive on the global market as it ensures the highest quality with innovative technologies. In this way, uvex safety gloves successfully distinguishes itself from the cheap products that are made in the Far East,” says Franz Keller.
uvex safety gloves was selected as the “TOP Innovator 2013” in the nationwide TOP 100 corporate benchmarking competition on account of its innovative strength. In the overall ranking for Germany, the company was placed first in category B for companies with 51 to 250 employees.
