What Does It Mean?
A critically reviewed methodology for Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) ensures that CO₂ emissions are calculated in accordance with clearly defined, internationally recognized standards. It provides transparency, comparability, and reliability—key prerequisites for informed climate action and decision-making.
This is based on established standards such as ISO 14067:2018 for the quantification of Product Carbon Footprints and ISO 14071:2024, which specifies requirements for critical review. A critical review confirms that:
- The applied calculation approaches are methodologically sound.
- Relevant emission sources throughout the product life cycle are taken into account.
- The results are transparent, traceable, and verifiable.
This ensures that carbon footprint assessments are not only internally consistent but also externally credible and comparable.

Our PCF methodology and the associated calculation tools successfully underwent a critical review by DEKRA in May 2026. This independent review confirms that our approach for selected product groups complies with the requirements of the international standards ISO 14067:2018 and ISO 14071:2024.
The methodology enables standardized and robust calculation of Product Carbon Footprints within defined system boundaries:
- Cradle-to-Customer: from raw material extraction through delivery to the customer.
- Cradle-to-Grave: across the entire product life cycle, including use and end-of-life treatment.
