uvex gloves can break the chain of transmission in contact infections

By inhibiting the spread of bacteria and viruses and destroying them within minutes, the gloves help to reduce their transmission. As a result, contact infections can be minimised. Those who wear uvex phynomic silv-air safety gloves are therefore better protected against the pathogens that collect on the palms of your hands from everyday objects such as shopping trolleys, door handles and gym equipment. By wearing these gloves, you are also protecting other people because you reduce the risk of transferring pathogens onto other surfaces. This reduces the risk of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens being transmitted via hands and objects and ultimately being absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth, nose and eyes, causing others to become infected.

With our innovative uvex phynomic silv-air gloves, we help you to optimise your personal protection concept in order to reduce the risk of contact infection. We recommend using the uvex phynomic silv-air or uvex phynomic silv-air grip gloves in the following areas in particular:

In a retail setting, as a retail worker or customer

Gloves have so far been a rarity on the daily or weekly shop, both for customers and retail workers. Viruses and bacteria can spread from items like shopping trolleys, baskets and industrial trucks to hands.

Travelling on public transport

Whether on local public transport or travelling long distance, lots of people come into contact with each other every day on trains and buses and at train stations and airports. With face coverings now mandatory to ensure safe, hygienic travel, our uvex phynomic silv-air gloves can also be worn to voluntarily increase your own protection and that of others.

Working in the logistics sector

Whether packaging, sorting, loading or unloading goods, lots of hands come in contact with the same items in the logistics sector. Our uvex phynomic silv-air gloves protect wearers when handling cardboard boxes, adhesive tape, parcels and pallets, as well as industrial trucks and other means of transport.

At the gym

Up to now, strength athletes have mainly been used to wearing gloves at the gym as a means of protecting their hands against injury. Now, our uvex phynomic silv-air grip gloves can be worn to combine protection against injury and protection against the bacteria and viruses that may be lurking on e.g. gym equipment.

Working in the food & beverages sector, catering, canteens

Whether in the kitchen, front of house or handling food products, our uvex phynomic silv-air gloves protect employees, colleagues and guests against the risk of contact infection.

As personal protective equipment (PPE) in clinics, care facilities and medical practices

In medical settings, e.g. in hospitals, care facilities and medical practices, safety gloves are needed every day. Our uvex phynomic silv-air gloves are ideal to wear as glove liners, for example underneath examination gloves, for added protection.

FAQs about uvex phynomic silv-air products

What innovative features do the uvex phynomic silv-air gloves offer?

Our uvex phynomic silv-air and uvex phynomic silv-air grip gloves are the first uvex products to combine our tried-and-tested protective components with the revolutionary textile technology HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT. The innovative composition of our gloves minimises the risk of contact infection from objects within minutes by inhibiting the spread of bacteria and viruses on the gloves and inactivating 99.9%¹ of viral particles on the glove surface.

When and where should I wear the uvex phynomic silv-air gloves?

One ideal use for the uvex phynomic silv-air gloves is as a glove liner under disposable gloves like our uvex u-fit. When using the uvex phynomic silv-air, we recommend wearing disposable gloves one size bigger than you would usually use. The uvex phynomic silv-air can also be worn by themselves, ideally for activities that do not require special grip, such as pushing a shopping trolley or opening doors.
If better grip is required, for instance when working out at the gym, the uvex phynomic silv-air grip gloves are ideal. Additional, transparent micro-nubbing improves grip in dry environments, making it easier to grip and hold objects.

What challenges can the uvex phynomic silv-air gloves tackle?

The sophisticated design of the uvex phynomic silv-air safety gloves is well-equipped to take on the health challenges that we are facing in our day-to-day lives. According to data from the Robert Koch Institute citizen portal GrippeWeb, between two and 14 million people contract influenza during a seasonal flu outbreak in Germany, for example, usually from droplets and secretions containing the virus that are passed on via hands and surfaces. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) also says that while there is not currently any hard evidence that coronavirus is transmitted through contact with contaminated objects or surfaces, the possibility of contact infections via surfaces as the source of transmission, having been previously contaminated with the virus, cannot be excluded. Those surveyed in the BfR Corona-Monitor on 10 – 11 November 2020* also consider the indirect transmission of coronavirus to be a relevant issue. 39% rate the risk of contracting coronavirus via door handles as high or very high. Cash, toys and food are also regarded as possible sources of infection.

Do the uvex phynomic silv-air safety gloves protect against coronaviruses?

An examination of the antiviral properties in accordance with ISO 18184:2019-06 showed that the uvex phynomic silv-air glove far exceeds the requirements and the viral load is minimised within minutes. The study involving the virus CCov – VR 809 (from the SARS-CoV-2 family) found that a canine virus type with a lipid envelope is broken down particularly quickly by the HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT technology. Covid-19 is caused by a virus from the same family. HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT is one of the first textile technologies in the world that has been proven in a laboratory to be effective against SARS-CoV-2. Tests by the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne, Australia (Doherty Institute) showed that the treated fabric achieved a 99.9 percent¹ reduction of the virus. This effectiveness of the gloves was proven again in independent tests carried out in accordance with ISO 18184:2019-06 and ISO 20743:2016.

How exactly does the HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT technology work?

As a textile treatment, HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT equips textiles with antiviral and antibacterial properties. By combining antimicrobial silver technology and vesicle technology, HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT rapidly destroys enveloped viruses, including coronaviruses¹.

How was the antiviral effect proven?

The antiviral and antibacterial effect has been proven in HEIQ VIROBLOCK by CHT studies, and has also been confirmed by the uvex safety group at independent test institutes in accordance with ISO 18184:2019-06 (for viruses) and ISO 20743:2016 (for bacteria). The glove contains a biocide based on recycled silver salt with the active ingredient from silver chloride. Bacteria are rendered harmless when they come into contact with this active ingredient as it significantly reduces their reproductive capacity.

What do I need to do before putting on the uvex phynomic silv-air?

Before you put on the uvex phynomic silv-air, you should wash and dry your hands, following the five steps set out by the German Federal Centre for Health Education. Do not use any sanitiser or skin care products after washing your hands, as these can damage the gloves. We also recommend removing any jewellery and trimming your fingernails as these can damage the safety gloves. Check the gloves for damage before putting them on.

What are contact infections?

In contact infections, also known as smear infections, pathogens are transmitted through a chain of contact, e.g. from person to person or via objects. The pathogens can eventually enter the body via the mucus membranes in our mouth, nose or eyes through contact with the face and cause an infection. Examples of known contact infections include the flu and gastrointestinal infections.

Is the glove suitable for food processing applications?

The uvex phynomic silv-air and uvex phynomic silv-air grip safety gloves with antiviral and antibacterial properties are not additionally certified in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 for use in food processing and/or food production. Nevertheless, the glove is suitable for normal activities, e.g. putting away food in the wholesale and retail sectors, just like the other safety gloves that are currently used.

Is the glove sterile?

The uvex phynomic silv-air and uvex phynomic silv-air grip safety gloves are antiviral and antibacterial, meaning that viruses and bacteria that collect on the product as a result of any smear contact are reliably and rapidly inactivated¹. However, the glove is not sterile on delivery, i.e. has not gone through a sterilisation process prior to delivery and is not packaged in a sterile atmosphere.

How skin-friendly is the glove compared to disposable gloves?

With disposable safety gloves that use latex or nitrile as the base material, users may suffer allergic reactions to the glove material, resulting in issues such as redness, itchiness and eczema. Allergy sufferers can use the uvex phynomic silv-air safety gloves as an alternative to avoid this problem. We recommend using the uvex phynomic silv-air safety gloves as an alternative to disposable safety gloves in dry areas of application (no contact with blood or other fluids) or, in areas where fluid protection is required, as an additional glove liner underneath liquid-tight disposable safety gloves in order to avoid direct contact with the latex or nitrile material of the disposable gloves. Users also benefit from the antiviral and antibacterial effect of the uvex phynomic silv-air safety gloves, which rapidly inactivates viruses and bacteria¹.

How long can the uvex phynomic silv-air safety glove be used for?

If the safety glove is stored in the unopened packet in a clean, dry and dark place, it can be kept for up to three years. The HEIQ Viroblock treatment is firmly affixed to the textile and offers a high level of protection even after five washes. If the safety gloves are used relatively infrequently and are not subjected to heavy use, they should be replaced after six months.

What is the difference between the uvex phynomic silv-air and the uvex phynomic silv-air grip?

The uvex phynomic silv-air safety glove offers the highest degree of safety. The antiviral and antibacterial treatment on the textile is distributed evenly and is effective across the entire glove. The uvex phynomic silv-air grip safety glove features additional nubbing for a secure grip. The number of nubs and their distribution is kept to a minimum so that they have only a minor impact on the antiviral and antibacterial effect of the textile.
