Prescription safety spectacles Clear vision and safety in the workplace

Prescription safety spectacles by uvex

uvex prescription safety spectacles are individually adapted to the wearer's vision while offering the best possible protection in the workplace.

The spectacles are certified and marked in accordance with EN 166, so they can be used in workplaces where safety spectacles are mandatory. As occupational safety spectacles, they not only protect the eyes (from UV radiation, flying particles, dust etc.), but are also a visual aid because the lenses have a dioptric effect.

uvex offers a wide range of high-quality lens materials, focus types and frames. This makes it easier to switch between personal spectacles and employer-provided safety spectacles, which increases wearer acceptance.

The comprehensive uvex quality system guarantees the best design from an optical and processing technology perspective. All materials used (lenses, frames, cases etc.) are free from harmful substances and are regularly inspected.

Certification and labelling

Certification and labelling of prescription safety spectacles

Certification

Individually manufactured uvex prescription safety spectacles are tested and certified by independent testing institutes at regular intervals accord-ing to the requirements of EN 166.

Marking

  • Frame and lenses are permanently marked
  • If the markings on the lens and frame are different, the lower mechanical strength applies to the entire eye protection device
  • According to the PPE regulation, uvex prescription safety spectacles must be marked with the factory symbol and production date: MM/YYYY

Technical information on the lens options

Lens materials

Polycarbonate (PC)

  • Organic material with very high tensile strength
  • Only limited chemical resistance
  • Mechanical strength, class “F” (45 m/sec)
  • PC+ – polycarbonate lens that is thicker in the middle, especially for uvex RX goggles

Trivex™

  • Organic material with high tensile strength
  • Lightweight, also suitable for high prescriptions
  • Very good optical image reproduction properties even on high prescriptions
  • Very high resistance to cleaning solutions, oils, cosmetics
  • Good scratch resistance
  • Best all-round lens material
  • Mechanical strength, class “F” (45 m/sec)

CR39

  • Also known as: plastic
  • Not suitable for safety spectacles unless modified, as the tensile strength is otherwise too low. The middle of the lens must be thicker in order to meet the requirements for tensile strength.
  • Organic, lightweight material
  • Very good optical image reproduction properties even on high prescriptions
  • Suitable for working with chemicals and paint
  • Good scratch resistance thanks to hard coating (optional)
  • Mechanical strength, class “S” (ball drop test)

HI (high index), organic lens materials with high refractive index

  • Organic-material lenses with a refractive index of 1.6 or 1.67 are optically more effective (than CR 39)
  • With less material and less curved surfaces, the lens has the required optical effect
  • The lens is thinner and looks more attractive
  • Recommended for prescriptions > +/-4.0 dpt.: HI 1.6
  • Recommended for prescriptions > +/-6.0 dpt.: HI 1.67
  • Mechanical strength, class “S” (ball drop test)

Hard glass

  • Also known as: crown glass, silicate, mineral glass, glass
  • Not suitable for safety spectacles unless modified, as the tensile strength is otherwise too low
  • Tensile strength is increased by thermal or chemical curing
  • Mechanical strength, class “S” (ball drop test) extremely scratch-resistant surface, suitable for working with chemicals and paint
  • Heavy, not suitable for prescriptions higher than +/-4.0 dpt.
  • Protects against flying sparks during welding and grinding work
  • Protects against molten metal splashes and hot solid projections

Finishes

Tint

Tinted lenses provide effective protection against glare in areas with high light intensity (for example, sunlight)

Constant tinting:

  • Available in brown or grey
  • Tinting levels: 15%, 25%, 65%, 75%

Variable tinting – Variomatic™

  • Lenses tint automatically, depending on the intensity of the UV radiation and temperature
  • Tinting of approx. 8% to 80% in brown
  • Available on polycarbonate and Trivex™ prescription safety lenses

Anti-reflective coating

Anti-reflective coating is applied to the inside and outside of lenses using vapour deposition. It significantly reduces reflections on the surfaces. It offers a cosmetic advantage and increases light transmission.

Three types of coating are available:

  • Normal anti-reflective coating
  • Multi anti-reflective coating
  • Super anti-reflective coating

Scratch-resistant coating

To guarantee an ideal surface hardness, all our plastic lenses are given a hard coating (optional for CR 39).

UV blue protect

UV blue protect

A special absorber has been added to the lens material that completely filters out UV rays and reduces the blue light content.

  • The lenses absorb UV radiation up to 400 nm at 100%, filter short-wave blue light until 410 nm almost completely and reduce the range from 410 nm to 420 nm around 86%.
  • uvex UV blue protect lenses enhance contrast and effectively prevent signs of fatigue and age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • UV blue protect is optionally available for polycarbonate (PC) lenses and HI 1.67
  • the mechanical strength of the lenses is guaranteed — clear lenses with UV blue protect are marked 2C-1.2 according to EN 170
Special lenses

Didymium

  • Special filter with high absorption at 589 nm, resulting in characteristic violet colour
  • The 'bright yellow sodium flare' is filtered out
  • Lightweight polycarbonate filter with mechanical strength 'F' (45 m/s)
