What is a respirator with an inhalation valve?
A respirator with an inhalation valve features a valve system that opens when you breathe in, allowing air to flow into the mask with minimal resistance. This increases breathing comfort, which is particularly beneficial for the wearer in high temperatures and/or during physical exertion.
What types of valves are available for respirators?
There are essentially two types of valves found on respirators: valves for exhalation and those for inhalation. An exhalation valve opens when exhaling, allowing warm, moist air to escape more quickly and increasing wearer comfort – however, the exhaled air escapes unfiltered, meaning there is no protection for the surrounding environment. An inhalation valve is primarily used in reusable half-masks. It makes inhaling easier by reducing resistance. Often, as is the case with uvex, inhalation valves have multiple chambers, which increases the total filter surface area and thus breathing comfort. Respirators from uvex with inhalation valves always also have an exhalation valve, making them even more functional.
Is breathing more strenuous with a respirator without a valve?
With respirators without a valve, both inhaled and exhaled air must pass completely through the filter fleece, resulting in slightly higher breathing resistance in both directions. Models with an inhalation or exhalation valve noticeably reduce this resistance in one of the two breathing directions. However, modern FFP2 masks use highly efficient filter media that optimise airflow and make breathing easier. This means that even valve-free versions remain comfortable and reliable when worn for longer periods.
What is an FFP1 mask with an inhalation valve?
An FFP1 mask with an inhalation valve filters at least 80% of particles and makes inhaling easier thanks to the valve. It offers basic protection against light dust exposure and, thanks to reduced inhalation resistance, ensures greater comfort during prolonged activities.
What is an FFP2 mask with an inhalation valve?
An FFP2 mask with an inhalation valve achieves at least 94% filtration efficiency and noticeably reduces inhalation resistance thanks to the valve. FFP2 models with an inhalation valve are suitable for work areas with moderate to high levels of particle and aerosol exposure, where comfortable breathing is important.
What is an FFP3 mask with an inhalation valve?
An FFP3 mask with an inhalation valve offers the highest level of protection against very fine, hazardous particles, with at least 99% filtration efficiency. The valve makes breathing in significantly easier. It is used in environments with high levels of dust and aerosols, such as in metalworking, chemical or hazardous substance areas.
