uvex 1 G2 planet
100% performance. 25% recycled.
uvex is presenting a new sustainable product system at the A+A 2021 in Düsseldorf – the planet series. The company is showcasing the uvex 1 G2 planet – one of many highlights from the field of safety shoes. 100% performance. 25% recycled.
With sustainability at A+A 2021
Because the topic of sustainability is part of our DNA. Protecting people is at the core of what we do. This drives all uvex brand values. The objective is to provide people with the right protection through our products. Whether for work, sport or for leisure. uvex defines “protection” not only in terms of preventing physical injury, but also in a wider social, ecological and economic context. Our pledge to protect society and the environment using the group-wide protecting planet concept is therefore derived from our "protecting people" mission. This is why uvex holistically checks, evaluates and optimises all steps in the value creation chain, to ensure the best and most sustainable uvex product possible. That is the uvex claim. To protect people comfortably and safely, from head-to-toe, in their daily work.
From the upper to the sole, the new uvex 1 G2 planet offers both sustainability and performance in one. In accordance with standard DIN EN ISO 14021:2016, the uvex 1 G2 planet consists of 25% recycled materials without compromising its protective properties and comfort compared to the well-known uvex 1 G2 models.
Many of the shoe's components, such as the upper and insole, are made from 100 percent recycled materials. In addition, uvex already uses some of its own PU waste for the production of the outsole: up to 10 percent has been used in the uvex x-tended grip planet.
When considering the individual values for the uvex 1 G2 planet itself, we are particularly proud of the following:
For the first time, uvex has calculated the CO2 footprint for one of their safety shoes. This tells us how much CO2 is emitted during the production of a pair. To calculate this, uvex measured the emissions from the raw materials to the first use*.
The result is that the CO2 footprint of the uvex 1 G2 planet is 7.8 kg. This is roughly equivalent to a 35 km car journey. By using recycled and bio-based materials, uvex were able to reduce the CO2 footprint by 1.3 kg or 14.3% compared to the regular uvex 1 G2. The calculations are based on Sima Pro 9.2.0.1, ecoinvent 3.6 database. The uvex 1 G2 planet is available in black/turquoise and white/turquoise.
(*the end-of-life emissions depend on the method of disposal.)
