uvex helmets with MIPS
Innovative, effective head protection
To provide even more effective head protection, uvex is using the innovative MIPS safety system developed in Sweden in two new safety helmets: In the event of an accident, MIPS deflects dangerous rotational movements that could otherwise be transferred to the wearer's head. MIPS allows minimal movement between the head and the helmet in all directions — effectively absorbing oblique impacts.
MIPS stands for Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. This innovative system is composed of equipment inside the helmet that allows the head to move: The concept mimics the natural protection system provided by the layer of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain, which allows the brain to move relative to the skull. MIPS allows around 10–15 millimetres of movement between the helmet and the head, which deflects rotational movements in the event of an accident.
New: uvex pronamic alpine MIPS
Working together with MIPS, the Swedish company that developed the technology, uvex has now equipped two of its safety helmets with MIPS technology: An optimised version of the proven uvex pheos S-KR safety helmet, and the new the uvex pronamic alpine MIPS industrial climbing helmet, which has been developed in accordance with EN397 and EN12492.
"We are thrilled to launch these helmets on the market alongside uvex. These two different types of helmets are suitable for different working environments, but both are the result of the new partnership between Mips and uvex," says Olof Rylander, Senior Business Developer Safety at Mips. The MIPS system is based on 25 years of research in cooperation with various other parties, including the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology.
Additional protection in the workplace
Safety helmets with MIPS provide additional safety at work. Many workplace accidents involve head injuries — they play a significant role in around 40% of all work-related fatalities. "By equipping our helmets with MIPS technology, we have effectively increased the protection they provide against rotational forces that can occur in the event of an accident — in line with our mission 'protecting people'", explains Wolf Wagner, Director Product Group Management Head at uvex.
