Safety gloves – additional information

When working, our hands are constantly in direct contact with the objects and materials at our workplace, so it is important to find the right occupational glove for the corresponding hazardous situation. The requirements for suitable occupational gloves change completely depending on whether your employees are doing delicate precision work or are operating heavy machinery, whether they are working in dry areas or wet or oily environments, whether they will come into contact with chemicals or are exposed to mechanical risks. We help you to choose the right hand protection.

Why are work gloves important in everyday life?

We use our hands for almost everything we do – which exposes them to a wide range of risks. Whether on the job, in industrial settings or at home, cuts, abrasions, bruises or contact with chemicals are among the most common causes of injury. The right safety gloves can significantly reduce these risks. They also help protect the skin from dryness, irritation and allergic reactions. Even for everyday tasks such as gardening, home improvement or moving, wearing suitable work gloves is a smart choice. uvex and HexArmor offer a wide range of solutions to protect your hands and support your long-term health.

Which work gloves are right for which tasks?

The right safety gloves depend on the task and the risks involved. In trades and industrial environments, assembly gloves are a versatile choice. They provide a secure grip during assembly, construction and general handling tasks while protecting against minor injuries.

When working with sharp edges, blades or sheet metal, cut-resistant gloves are the best choice. Leather gloves offer reliable protection against heat, for example during welding. When handling chemicals, oils or cleaning agents, chemical-resistant gloves made from nitrile or other synthetic materials are essential.

The uvex safety and HexArmor range offers the right hand protection for every application. Use the uvex glove advisor to find the ideal safety gloves for your specific requirements.

How often should work gloves be replaced?

Work gloves are consumables and need to be inspected regularly and replaced when necessary. How often they should be replaced depends on the task, the level of wear and tear, and the material used.

Key indicators include:

  • Visible damage: Tears, holes, abrasions or porous areas mean that protection is no longer guaranteed. The glove should be replaced immediately.
  • Changes in fit: If a glove becomes stretched, loses elasticity or the lining shifts, comfort and safety are affected.
  • Exposure to chemicals: Chemical-resistant gloves, such as those made from nitrile, often need to be disposed of immediately after contact with aggressive substances. Their protective performance is limited to a specific contact time, depending on the chemical and the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Hygiene requirements: For tasks with strict hygiene standards, disposable gloves must be changed after each step.
  • Regular cleaning and inspection: Reusable gloves should be cleaned regularly and checked for damage before each use.

Timely replacement ensures that your safety gloves continue to meet the required protection standards and reliably protect your hands from injury and other risks.

By replacing them in good time, you ensure that your safety gloves always meet the required protection class and reliably protect your hands from injuries and other risks.

How do I find the right size for work gloves?

The right size is crucial for both protection and comfort. Gloves that are too large can slip and increase the risk of injury, while gloves that are too small restrict movement and can lead to hand fatigue.

Here’s how to determine the right size:

  1. Measure your hand circumference: Measure around the widest part of your dominant hand (excluding the thumb).
  2. Measure hand length: Measure from the tip of your middle finger to the base of your wrist.
  3. Find your size: Use these measurements to identify the correct glove size (usually sizes 6 to 12) in the uvex size chart.

Make sure the glove fits snugly without being too tight, and that your fingers fully reach the fingertips. This ensures safe working conditions while maximising comfort and reducing fatigue.
